A masterly Albéniz

Katia Michel’’s interpretation is sober though extremely communicative and passionate though totally unaffected. While she is sensitive to the overtones of Albéniz’s popular music, she never exaggerates the folklore aspect. She presents an interpretation of impeccable technique that follows the track of the absolute master in this repertoire, Alicia de Larrocha. Just as Albéniz avoids mannerism in his composition, Michel avoids mannerism in her performance. She abandons herself with security to the hispanic references without falling into the trap of trivial evocation. Magic in the music that sparks our imagination.
